Join the fellowship of the ‘crazed’

THE CHALLENGE

The ‘crazed’ of Ventoux is a fellowship of brave men and women who took one look at the mountain topping out at 1,909m and thought, ‘well it’s probably not enough to climb that just the once!’…

Prospective Cinglés now have the opportunity to enter this fraternity of sadists by taking on all 3 sides of the ‘Giant of Provence’ in an epic virtual challenge hosted by The Online Events Company and rendered via the immersive virtual cycling platform, BikeTerra

THE route

The route encompasses the three mythical climbs of Ventoux:

1. The Sault Route
The ‘easier’ ascent from Sault, which averages a ‘manageable’ 4.7% gradient, but is actually the longest route at 25km.

2. Malaucène
Shorter at 21km, but with an average gradient of 7.5% it is considerably more challenging.

3. Bédoin
Finally, the toughest route of them all! With similar averages as the Malaucène route, you would be forgiven for thinking it’s a similar deal. However, the Bédoin route fools you with an easy first 6km of around 3-5%, before it ramps up to above 10% and rarely drops below 6% for the final 19km!

In total the course is 103km long with over 4000m of cumulative leg busting ascent.

With numbers such as these, Les Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux Virtuel offers an equally ‘crazy’ challenge as if you were doing it for real, but riding it virtually not only saves you a heap on travel costs but it also spares you the trauma of trying to evade rampaging tour buses as you descend!

Not quite ready to do all three sides? No worries. This event is all about challenging yourself to see what you are capable of. So do what you can, you’ll still receive a virtual goody bag!

HOW IT WORKS

Whilst completing the challenge will be anything but simple, joining the event should be relatively straightforward:

  1. Get yourself signed up (see below).
  2. If you don’t already have one, create yourself at least a free BikeTerra account (only a free account is necessary to join the event).
  3. We would recommend trying out one of the free events in the BikeTerra calendar well in-advance to test your set up before event day.
  4. The day before the event, we will circulate the BikeTerra joining link to participants (we recomend checking your email settings so our emails don’t caught in a junk filter).
  5. At exactly 10am GMT on 8 February, the flag will drop and you will have 24-hours to battle through the 103km course and all 4123m of climbing to become one of Les Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux Virtuel!
